Cookie and browser storage policy

Updated: October 6, 2026. Browser local storage and cookies are different technologies. Both can preserve information between visits; blocking third-party cookies does not automatically clear local storage.

Account and preference storage

• Login: the optional account uses a JWT bearer token stored as wz_token, with wz_username and wz_admin for interface state. Treat the token as sensitive. Logout removes these browser login values.
• Language: wz_lang remembers your selected language. Machine-translated text can also be cached locally.
• Convenience: recent searches and display preferences may remain in local storage. Search history can contain place names and dates that matter to you.
• Consent: wr_consent_v1 records the choice used by the shared consent manager. A saved preference is not evidence of advertising approval.

Analytics consent is separate from functionality

Google Analytics is opt-in through the consent manager, not loaded by an unconditional page-level Google tag. Use Cookie settings in the footer to review or change that choice. Changing consent does not retroactively erase data already transmitted or clear every cookie a third party may have set.

The existing first-party analytics implementation also uses wz_session, a persistent browser identifier, and sends visit, click, search, and result-summary events to the WeatherRecall server. These records can be related across visits and must not be described as anonymous merely because a dashboard shows totals. Whether these events run is governed by the deployed analytics implementation; the Google Analytics choice alone should not be assumed to control every server record.

Advertising is paused

Direct AdSense loaders have been removed from these static pages. Advertising remains paused pending a Google-certified consent management platform and the applicable publisher requirements. The site's basic analytics consent manager is not claimed to be a Google-certified CMP. Ad serving, account approval, or policy acceptance is not guaranteed.

Third-party requests are not all cookies

Weather APIs, location autocomplete, map tiles, externally hosted assets, and automatic translation can receive network requests even without analytics cookies. These providers normally receive the requester’s IP address and request metadata. The server’s country lookup can transmit a visitor IP to ipwho.is. See the privacy notice for destinations and purpose.

Your controls and their limits

You can log out, change consent, deny browser geolocation, and clear this site's cookies and local storage in your browser. Clearing site data may reset language, history, consent, and login, and returning to the site can create new values. It does not delete server-side account data, analytics, or provider records. Local-storage expiration and deployment log retention are not specified here because exact schedules have not been verified.
